Hey homie! I’m Mikha
I realize now that I didn’t grow up in a family who just loved food – we celebrated it!
Ever since I could remember, I was always in the kitchen with a spatula in hand. As I stood on my tippy toes on our worn down step stool & eagerly hovered over the stove, my Filipina mom patiently taught me about our Filipino culture through cooking.
It was undoubtedly what sparked my life-long curiosity of experiencing culture through food. It was also my first-hand experience of how to care for the people I love most by nurturing them with a mouthwatering meal.
I eventually became my family’s personal chef (LOL) & was in charge of my family’s meals as my mom worked full-time & went to school at night. As I grew older, so did my hunger to learn more. I fell in love with traveling, learning about various cultures/cuisines, & took cooking classes when I could. I loved every moment of it & eagerly shared what I learned with my closest family & friends!
Many of the dishes you’ll find here have been handed down from my grandmother and her mother before her, rooted in the agrarian rhythms of the South and shaped by the seasons and bounty of our land. Each recipe carries with it a narrative of ingenuity, often born out of necessity and always flavored with love.

But when I eventually moved from California to Las Vegas, I suddenly felt gut-wrenchingly alone. The loving community I once had in California felt devastatingly far away & I realized I didn’t know anyone in my new city.
In the pit of isolation, I turned to the only thing that sparked joy for me – cooking. And I finally realized…
If I didn’t have the community I was craving, why not build it? And after learning from a study done by Porch that millennials feel less confident in the kitchen compared to other generations, I was shocked!
This struck a chord with me. And so this journey began…
This blog is a love letter to fellow Asian Americans (like me!) who are striving to feel more connected to their loved ones & their culture. And what better way to do that than by sharing a mouthwatering meal?
These recipes are a shout-out to beginner home cooks who want to create a delicious meal they can be proud of, but may feel like they don’t have those “instinctual” cooking skills like previous generations.

- Easy to Find Ingredients. You won’t be hunting down exotic ingredients from a bazillion different stores or breaking the bank for an ingredient you’d literally only use once.
- Easy, Practical, & Budget-Friendly Recipes. These qualities are bff’s in my eyes & core pillars in the meals I create.
- Goody-Packed Newsletters stuffed with time-saving tips, game-changing cooking tools, & first access to new recipes that makes life easier & more delicious.
- Cooking & Photography Essentials that make time in the kitchen & studio seamless.
My goal is to make cooking as easy (and delicious!) as possible, so you’re not spending all day in the kitchen. Instead, I hope you create warm special memories with the people you love most as you pass your irresistible meal around the dinner table.
