🥘 How to Make The BEST Cheesy Garlic Bread

This garlic pull apart bread is so quick and simple with just a handful of ingredients!

Bread: If you’re not a baker, don’t have much time, or (let’s be real) just don’t feel like pulling a Sara Lee & making bread from scratch – THIS is your kinda recipe! We’re using convenient store-bought bread to make the most epic garlic bread!

Crusty bread holds REALLY well & has a great contrast of textures! Think sourdough or french breads. Their fluffy tender centers soak up all that garlicky-buttery goodness while their extremely crunchy crusts holds everything together – gahhh it’s perfection! They’re practically begging to be teared & shared!

Cheese: Repeat after me – FRESHLY. GRATED. CHEESE. ONLY. yeeup, we’re going there. If you want that photo-worthy cheese pull, THIS is how you do it. Mozzarella cheese gives that epic stretch when you pull apart bread and parmesan gives a subtle nuttiness! Cold cheese is easier to grate, so you can even pop them in the freezer for a few minutes for easier grating!

Miso: Miso paste is your secret ingredient with umami that gives your cheesy garlic bread an unfair advantage over other garlic breads! There are different kinds of miso, but for this garlic bread recipe, white miso paste blends deliciously with the rest of the flavors!

Garlic: To make this speedy, I’m using freshly minced garlic and garlic powder for a bold garlicky flavor (strong enough to fight off vampires). BUT if you have the extra time, roasted garlic is absolutely delicious too! It’s sweeter with a milder garlic flavor. Check my recipe notes for details!

👩🏽‍🍳 Key Tips

  • Use Room Temperature Butter & Miso: They’re MUCH easier to combine when they’re room temperature.
  • EXTRA Crunchy Crust: If you like an extra golden crunchy crust (my husband’s fave!), keep your garlic bread in the oven a little longer!
  • Don’t Waste the Base: The gooey pull apart bits are the stars of the show everyone wants, but the base of the bread is the hidden gem! It’s EXTRA crunchy and soaked with all the drippings of garlicky miso butter! Don’t sleep on it.

🎉 Make Ahead for Parties

THIS is the kinda Christmas dish, Thanksgiving meal, or Game Day recipe that gets everyone gathering!

Easily make it ahead by doing all the prep – slathering the bread with miso garlic butter and stuffing it with cheese. Then wrap it up in foil & keep in the fridge. When you’re ready, bake it before serving! Ez peasy.

Serve it up with epic Kimchi Mac and Cheese, easy oven-baked Gochujang Ribs, a bouncy pile of Asian Garlic Noodles, or any of my easy recipes for entertaining for a full spread with easy prep!

♨️ How to Store & Reheat

If you have leftovers, allow the miso garlic bread to cool to room temperature, then wrap in aluminum foil or store in an airtight container. Keep in the fridge for up to 4 days.

To reheat, preheat oven to 350 degrees F, then place the garlic pull apart bread on a baking sheet and bake for 5-10 minutes or until warm. If you’re using the air fryer, preheat to 340 degrees F, line the air fryer tray with foil then place the cheesy garlic bread in the air fryer. Bake for 5-10 minutes or until warm and cheese is melty. Enjoy immediately!

Ingredients

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 crusty bread loaf my fave is sourdough
  • 1 1/2 cup mozzarella shredded

MISO GARLIC BUTTER:

  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter softened
  • 1 ½ tablespoons white miso paste
  • 1 head garlic minced OR roasted
  • ¼ – ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley finely chopped
  • 1/4 cup parmesan grated or shredded
  • 2 teaspoons chili flakes optional / adjust to your spice level

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 360F.
  • In a mixing bowl, combine butter, miso paste, garlic, garlic powder, fresh parsley, parmesan, and chili flakes (if using) until well combined. Set aside.
  • Cut the bread diagonally into about 1-inch diamonds – do not cut all the way through the bread. Tightly wrap the bottom of the bread in foil (photo in blog post above); this will help keep the bread held together while stuff it with cheese!
  • Use your fingers or a knife to spread the wedges open, then spread the miso garlic butter and stuff mozzarella cheese. This might sound like a bit of an effort, but I promise you it is worth it! You don’t need to be super neat – excess miso garlic butter dripping on the crust means an extra flavorful crust!
  • Transfer to a baking sheet and bake for 15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bread golden & crunchy. Garnish with more parsley, then serve & enjoy immediately!

Notes

  • Bread: Use already baked bread, not uncooked bread dough. Ideally, using sourdough or a crusty bread because it holds up well when being pulled apart.
  • Cheeses: Use freshly grated cheese for the best gooey stretchy results!
  • Miso Paste: White miso paste blends beautifully with this recipe. Find it at local Asian or Japanese markets, or online.
